Horror Games Snubbed at The Game Awards 2024 as ‘ASTRO BOT’ Wins Game of the Year

Horror fans faced disappointment at The Game Awards 2024, as the genre was largely overlooked despite several nominations. Silent Hill 2, which had five nods, left empty-handed alongside many other horror and genre titles. In contrast, Team Asobi and Sony celebrated a triumphant night with ASTRO BOT, taking home four awards, including the coveted Game of the Year.

Notable genre contenders like Diablo IVElden Ring: Shadow of the ErdtreeLorelei and the Laser EyesArizona Sunshine RemakeWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and Pacific Drive also failed to secure wins in their respective categories.

The night wasn't a complete loss for horror, as Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II by Ninja Theory claimed victories in Best Audio Design and Best Performance for Melina Juergens as Senua. Other genre highlights included Helldivers 2 winning Best Multiplayer Game and Best Ongoing Game, Frostpunk 2 earning Best Sim/Strategy Game, Baldur’s Gate 3 taking Best Community Support, Batman: Arkham Shadow winning Best VR/AR Game, and Prime’s adaptation of Bethesda’s Fallout snagging Best Adaptation.

Horror enthusiasts have something to look forward to! The Horror Game Awards, streaming tomorrow at 4 PM ET, promise to shine a well-deserved spotlight on the genre. Leading the pack with eight nominations is Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake, followed closely by Mouthwashing from Wrong Organ and Stormind Games’ A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, each securing seven nods.
